As part of Coeur de Ville en Lumières, an annual illuminations festival in Montpellier, we were selected to create a show to be projected inside of Agora de Montpellier.
It is a cruel thing to be of human kind. As a nation of storytellers, the greatest tale ever told is the one of our supremacy over the Earth. Blinded by our hubris, we have believed that we were in the right to indulge in the treasures at our feet without ever paying our dues, never holding ourselves accountable. Our excesses have pushed our folk to the wall.
Travelling has become an obviousness, a craving for parting, far, in search of a new haven. Like children lost amid the vastness, drifting; sailing towards the undefined elsewhere choosing the stars and other blazing celestial objects as our travel companions. In the search of a land of asylum, our quest is doomed to repeatedly fail; until exhaustion. Our journey becomes an exile, as we are condemned to wander.
Repatriation is lifesaving. Our adventure has turned back to human scale as we have gained wisdom and humbleness from the scars left by our greed. Now is the time for reconstruction, mending and charity. Built over the ruins of the former, now is the awakening of a new world.
Though slightly disappointed in the end result, production wise, I believe this is an opportunity that is worth being shown; for we are only Architecture students and not studying Animation nor Film production. This experience was a first for all of us and we have managed to get through it all on time for the deadline. The festival lasted 3 nights during which the shows were projected on a loop onto the chosen buildings' facades.
